Aditi Ashok is a prominent Indian professional golfer who has made a name for herself in both the Ladies European Tour and the LPGA Tour. From a young age, Aditi started playing golf, inspired by her father, Ashok Gudlamani, who also served as her caddie during her first Olympic appearance in 2016. Aditi’s mother, Maheshwari, took on the caddie role in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Educated at The Frank Anthony Public School and graduating in 2016, Aditi embarked on her golfing career at just five years old, practicing at the Karnataka Golf Association driving range.
At age 13, Aditi had already won her first professional tour and dominated the National Junior Championship for three consecutive years from 2012 to 2014. She held both junior and senior titles simultaneously in 2014. She represented India at the Asian Youth Games (2013), Youth Olympics, and Asian Games (2014). Her transition to professional golf came after her victory at the Ladies British Amateur Stroke Play Championship in 2015. In January 2016, she turned professional, becoming the youngest and the first Indian woman to win the Lalla Aicha Tour School, obtaining her Ladies European Tour card for the 2016 season. This marked her as the youngest winner of a Q School for an international tour.
Aditi’s first major win came at the Hero Women’s Indian Open in 2016, making her the first Indian to secure a title on the Ladies European Tour. After her triumph at the Qatar Ladies Open, she started gaining popularity in her country. Her impressive performance in the same year earned her the Rookie of the Year award and an LPGA Tour card for 2017. In 2017, she joined the LPGA as the second Indian player after Simi Mehra, finishing eighth in the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year standings. Her consistent performance continued in 2018, with a T6-finish at the Volunteers of America LPGA Texas Classic and tying her career-low score at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship.
In the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics, she was the youngest golfer to compete, finishing 41st. The year 2020 Tokyo Olympics saw her finishing fourth in the women’s individual stroke play event. However, this was the time when she got true recognition as her countrymen began following her journey after she was on the top of the leaderboard in the initial rounds, before dropping down to fourth place on the fourth round. Aditi started and ended the 2023 LET season on a high note, winning both the Magical Kenya Ladies Open and the Andalucia Costa del Sol Open de Espana.
