Julianne Hough is coming out to offer her opinion regarding her own departure, and the exit of Gabrielle Union from America’s Got Talent after working with them for just one season. During a chat with People Now earlier this week, Julianne, sitting beside her brother, Derek, stated it was important for her to allow others’ voices to be heard.
As it was previously reported, Gabrielle and Julianne both left the series following complaints of a toxic working environment at the NBC talent competition show. Hough believes the way workplace environments are structured and also how they deal with complaints is in flux.
On the 22nd of November, it was revealed by multiple outlets that both Gabrielle and Julianne were leaving the series for good following their replacement of Heidi Klum and Mel B, respectively.
Reported by Variety a few days later on the 26th of November, the outlet revealed Union was concerned about alleged racially insensitive situations while she was a judge. Additionally, Union complained about Simon Cowell who supposedly smoked cigarettes repeatedly despite Gabrielle’s allergy to cigarette smoke.
Another incident in question involved a joke made by the entertainer, television show host, and stand-up comedian, Jay Leno, regarding Asian-Americans. Moreover, Julianne and Union were reportedly subjected to notes regarding how they looked.

For instance, Union was told by producers that her continuous hairstyle changes were “too black.” Additionally, Julianne endured criticism regarding her clothing style, makeup, and hair. In a statement to the publication, Julianne claims she was happy on the show and stated that her time there wasn’t negative.
Currently, Julianne has not one but two projects on the go with NBC, including an hourlong special called Holidays With The Houghs in which she co-stars with her 34-year-old brother, Derek. Moreover, she is slated to appear on the Christmas in Rockefeller Center program later this year.

Furthermore, Julianne explained that she, her brother, and NBC producers want everybody to feel included on the set of the reality series.
