Career

In 1962, Solomons teamed up with fellow dance innovators in a New York City studio. He really liked the idea of changing the way people usually think about dancing, but he still cared a lot about doing dance moves correctly and with care. He got to dance with famous groups like Martha Graham’s, Pearl Lang’s, Donald McKayle’s, Joyce Trisler’s, and Paul Sanasardo’s teams.

However, the time he spent working creatively with Merce Cunningham and his group from 1965 to 1968 had the biggest impact on his career during that period. Then, in 1972, Gus Solomons started a really important new phase of his life by starting his own dance company, which he called the Gus Solomons Company/Dance.
