Daisy Ridley’s trajectory from obscurity to becoming one of the biggest actresses on the planet is almost unparalleled; Before landing the lead role of Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the seventh instalment of the Space Opera epic and first of a revived trilogy, she was best known for minor roles in Mr Selfridge and Casualty, and her only film role at the time was one that was eventually cut out of The Inbetweeners 2 during the edit.

This weekend, though, whilst on the red carpet at the Empire Awards, where she picked up the Best New Female award, 23 year old Daisy addressed recent rumours that she was to be the star of another well loved franchise; a reboot of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, in which she would play the titular character, based on the best selling video game of the same name.

Daisy admitted that there “have been conversations” about the role once held by Angelina Jolie in an ill-fated attempt to launch the video games as a film franchise during the early 2000s. Despite talks, Daisy was quick to point out that the role hasn’t been offered to her, nor has a script even been completed for the film, which is still in development.

“I’m waiting for someone to say “I want you, let’s do it” she said, before adding that she definitely would be able to balance being the lead actress in Tomb Raider alongside filming future Star Wars films (the 8th film, which will see Ridley return as Rey, is currently filming in London and scheduled for release in December 2017).

“Absolutely, I’m trying to fill up my calendar,” she said.

Her Star Wars co-star John Boyega, who took home the Best Male Newcomer award at the Empire Awards, insisted that Daisy “needs” to be Lara Croft in the new film series.

With a lead role in the new Star Wars franchise already under her belt, and exciting parts like Lara Croft on the horizon, it seems like Daisy Ridley is on her way to being Hollywoods new favourite leading lady!
