Earlier this week, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp announced that some of the businesses in the state that were considered to be “nonessential” have been cleared to reopen on Friday, April 24th because of favorable COVID-19 data. However, rapper Cardi B – who is a new Georgia resident – made it clear that she thinks it is way too early to open these businesses back up.
Governor Kemp explained that he made the decision based on “favorable data, enhanced testing, and approval of our healthcare professionals.” He said that starting Friday, he will allow gyms, fitness centers, bowling alleys, body art studios, barbers, cosmetologists, hair designers, nail care artists, estheticians, their respective schools and massage therapists to reopen their doors.
Just like the thousands of businesses currently operating throughout Georgia, I am confident that business owners who decide to reopen will adhere to Minimum Basic Operations, which prioritize the health and well-being of employees and customers. (3/3) #gapol

According to Fox News, he previously defended his decision to reopen the state by arguing that the increased testing and data shows that social distancing is no longer necessary, despite what the majority of health care experts are saying.
The Bodak Yellow rapper is also a vocal critic of Kemp’s plan. She believes it is way too soon to be opening businesses.
Cardi B wrote on Instagram: “[Hospitals] are not nurturing covid [patients] with the proper foods tea to boost their immunes [sic]. Your parents, grandparents or you will most likely pass by yourself in a cold hospital with no physical contact with your loved ones. HEALTH OVER CAPITALISM!”
Unfortunately, after a month-long lockdown, these small businesses are struggling and people need to work and make a living. With the latest research showing that the COVID-19 mortality rate is significantly lower than previously thought, Governor Kemp is giving people an opportunity to make their own decisions about their health and their livelihood.

In addition to Georgia, the Governors of both Tennessee and South Carolina have announced their plans to reopen small businesses in their state, along with some guidelines. President Donald Trump says he “disagrees strongly” with Governor Kemp’s decision to open businesses on Friday, but he says that the Governor has the right to make the decisions for his state.
