Braun Strowman has now left WWE after being the top name in the latest series of releases.
The Monster Among Men reached the mountain top in 2020 when he stepped in as a late replacement for Roman Reigns and captured his first-ever world title in WWE.
Strowman had previously come up short despite coming close against Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns in the past, but now the 37 year old has departed the company..
Back at SummerSlam 2019, talkSPORT caught up with Strowman and wanted to know what really happened when Lesnar punched him for real during their match at Royal Rumble 2018.
“We laughed about it afterwards," Strowman started. "It is what it is. We got to the back and I said ‘Hey, my bad,' he said the same thing and we went about our business.
"We’re both grown ups, we both knew what we were getting into and at the end of the day, we’re both very dominant males and neither of us wanted to give in an inch, so in the end we took an inch from each other.
“Working with Brock I go in with the mentality that it’s a real fight. You have to. I remember Royal Rumble a couple of years ago, I got a little ants in my pants, so did he and we threw some heavy hitters at each other and carried on from there.
"Let’s face it, Brock’s one of the baddest human beings on the planet and I enjoy it, I like the physical aspect of it.
"I didn’t get into this thinking it was water polo or tennis or anything like that, I knew this was a full contact sport and when you’re in the ring with Brock Lesnar it is full contact. Ask anybody’s that’s worked with him. Brock brings the big fight and that’s why people pay money to see him."
One of the things that has made Strowman so popular is the major stunts he has been apart of on WWE television. But which one is his favourite?
“I believe out of all the crazy stuff that we’ve done, probably the best was when I flipped the ambulance over with Roman in it or when I imploded the ring with Big Show doing the superplex.
"I think the video of me flipping the ambulance has something like 75 million views on YouTube so that one might have connected with people more. I constantly to this day get kids coming up to me asking how I flipped the ambulance and I show them [points to his arms] right there. The power of protein. The New Day has pancake power, I have steak power.”
But when he's not flipping ambulances, what does Strowman do away from the ring?
“My main thing is just having fun, I’m a giant kid. I don’t even remotely act my age and it gets me in trouble and the boss probably hates it at times but I like living. You get one opportunity at life and I’m damn sure going to make the most of it. With our crazy schedule it’s tough to get out and do a lot of things 'cos who knows where we’re going to be or what we’re going to have going on?
"But with the guys that I ride with, every weekend we find some kind of shenanigans to get into, whether it’s go-kart racing, bumper cars, laser tag, some kind of food eating contest or we’ll go into one of those trampoline parks or paintball, you name it. We act like 15-year-old boys.
“I’m constantly just straight merking 10-year-old kids at laser tag, I’m a savage, I don’t pull any punches. I’m serious about this, you wanna get these lasers, come find me at a laser tag”
